  Curator in Residence

The 2017–2018 Curator in Residence season at Oregon Contemporary presented a series of exhibitions and programs highlighting the work of female and non-gender-conforming artists, with a focus on identity as shaped through digital communication. Developed during a time when women’s rights were central to political discourse, the season responded to ongoing structural inequities by amplifying voices historically marginalized within the art world, particularly across race, gender, and sexuality.

Through site-specific installations and cross-cultural dialogue, the exhibitions explored how identity is constructed, mediated, and contested in the digital age. Centering practices rooted in new media, the curated season expanded the representational possibilities of contemporary art and opened new pathways for articulating subjectivity, visibility, and resistance.
